NLE July 2011 Update#5

(Look at the bottom of this blog post for the updates!)

All who took (and suffered severe blood loss through epistaxis) in the July 2-3 Nursing Licensure Examination, like me, is now sitting tight, waiting for the tectonic, weighty results. While waiting for this, many of us are now searching for jobs and others have already been hired. (Majority in jobs not even related to nursing -- this made me write the Narsing Ngayon.)
But as of now, I want to share this update sent to me by the Licensure Division of Professional Regulation Commission - Baguio City Regional Office as a reply to my query about this matter (sent last July 5, 2011):

<Me:> Kelan po kaya lalabas yung result ng NLE July 2011?

<Reply:> We just finished the conduct of July 2-3, 2011 Nurses Licensure Examination. All reports and exam materials have been forwarded to the Central Office. We do not know as to when will the result  be released. Just keep on visiting our website in August.

Thank you.

Licensure Division

And also, for those who will take the December NLE, be reminded that the deadline of applications will be on September 16, 2011 (for Repeaters) and October 21, 2011 (for 1st Timers). Please find time to visit the PRC Official website (and official websites of Regional Offices too) for more info especially if they offer Mobile (Extension) Application Services. (This is of much help to reduce transpo expenses). For Pangasinan, services will be offered on August 26, 2011 at San Carlos City, 9AM-5PM, (Venue TBA)

UPDATE # 2:
Board of Nursing Member Marco Antonio C. Sto. Tomas posted in his Facebook Fan page last Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 3:02am:
... I am still able to post a message here and go over your individual posts therefore NO RELEASE YET. But let me share that we have already started "partial quarantine" this means we take turns going on duty everyday til 10pm... on the day called LINGGO NG WIKA, my youngest daughter's birthday* in fact, we go on FULL QUARANTINE. I wish all ONLY THE BEST and the heart to carry on whatever be ones fate. In all circumstances, GOD IS THERE.

*facebook fans of BON Sto. Tomas confirms that his daughter's birthday is today, August 19.

 UPDATE # 3:
After, the Philippine Board of Nursing (BON) and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released the result of the Nursing Licensure Examination (held July 2-3, 2011) last August 20, 2011 at around 6PM, I still have received many updates:

Late Reply to my E-Mails:

[ME:] I would just like to ask if there is any update regarding  the release of the Result of the July 2-3, 2011 Nursing Licensure Examination.
Thanks for sparing me a fraction of your precious time. Hope you could respond to this message.

ABOUT THE OATHTAKING FOR JULY 2011 BOARD PASSERS:

Yesterday afternoon, BoN Member Hon. Marco Antonio Sto. Tomas posted this note in his Official Facebook Fanpage:

TO ALL NEW PASSERS OF THE NLE
by BoN Marco Antonio C. Sto Tomas Fan Page on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 3:29pm

"In your Nursing Ethics and Professional Adjustment/Jursiprudence Lessons your school should have taught you that THERE ARE 3-FOLD REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL/RN IN THE PHILIPPINES: 1. Apply, take and PASS your Nurse Licensure Examination; 2. Take your Oath of Professional (individually or in group); and 3. Register from your Professional License. You have satisfied only no. 1 and you will need to satisfy the 2nd and 3rd requirement by adhering to the schedules to be set by PRC so keep yourselves posted in the PRC Website.

The BON has DONE AWAY with the traditionally MASS OATHTAKING in order to respond to current "economic difficulties" faced by "most" your families (cost-saving measures) and current job-scarcity among nurses. SIMPLIFYING the oathtaking is a must at this time. So YOU MAY TAKE YOUR OATH AT THE SAME TIME OF REGISTRATION with PRC.

FOR EVERYONE'S GUIDANCE. "

As this note form a BoN Member and his Facebook Status Posts suggest, Mass Oathtaking will not be done anymore taking into consideration the current financial and economic crisis that we have. But, as he responded to one of the passer's query, "Special Group Oathtaking" may be done with proper written request from Colleges' Deans to Board of Nursing through the PRC.

As for me, the best thing to do as of the moment is to wait for an Official Statement from the BoN as a whole body.

RESULT OF THE JULY 2011 IN NEWSPAPERS:
According to a Newspaper seller, the complete list of July 2011 NLE Passers will be published and be out today, August 23, 2011. So grab your copy NOW!

UPDATE #4:

UPDATE #5:
There are still no updates regarding whether or not the "NO MASS OATHTAKING" Policy of the BON will be lifted due to lots of negative comments/ reaction about this. But there are reports that PRC Baguio will hold Oathtaking in Baguio City on September 17, 2011.

As of the moment, this statement of BON about this matter is still on effect (click the image to enlarge):

How I won an oDesk shirt!

It's simple, I just asked a question for an employer to answer through a blog post and when they picked my question from hundreds of others', I won an oDesk shirt!

This is the content of the blog post that I am talking about:

Ask oDesk: What Are Employers Thinking?
17 August 2011 | Freelance Focus, Freelancing Tips | Tamara

We’ve selected two burning questions, chosen from a recent conversation about what an employer’s perspective is like. Community members whose questions were chosen will receive oDesk t-shirts.

Vikas B. asks: What is the most significant thing an employer looks for during hiring process?

We recently asked oDesk’s Whitney Priest, the manager of enterprise services, what she looks for during the hiring process, and here’s what she said:

“It’s as if there are three legs of a stool that need to be balanced:  1) availability, 2) price, and 3) track record. An employer has to balance these. We aren’t likely to find all three in a contractor. If someone has a really long track record on oDesk, they probably don’t have a lot of availability. Or an employer may find someone with a really long track record and excellent feedback, but might have to pay a little more than they want to for that person. On the other hand, a contractor with a good price and availability may not have a track record on oDesk yet. So there’s a little bit of risk for the employer on that one. We can rarely get all three qualities, so we may have to give a little on the third.”

Thanks, Whitney! (And thanks Vikas for asking!)

Keith G. asks:  What would make [an employer] eventually reject an application of a certain contractor?

I can tell you from experience there are a few obvious answers (zero qualifications, zero experience, bids that are outrageously high), but it’s the not-so-obvious answers I think you’re looking for. Certain things will cause you rejection at the application phase:

Not following the job post’s instructions. If the employer asked for work samples and you sent none, don’t expect great things. Pay attention to what the employer is asking for.
Not pointing out how your skills match their needs. If your cover letter does not indicate how your experience and qualifications will help meet the needs of the job post, you might as well kiss the interview phase goodbye.
Not showing professionalism. Not everyone expects perfect English, but they do expect professionalism. Don’t be impolite, but don’t beg for the job. Don’t be short, but don’t let your cover letter drag on forever either.

Other things will cause sure rejection by smart employers during the interview phase, and they include:
Not being prompt. Respond to emails quickly. Return phone calls quickly. Never be late for a Skype interview or conference call. Watch the clock.
Not being friendly. If there isn’t a smile in your voice (you can hear pleasantness over the phone, you know) and a personal nature to your exchanges (i.e., “have a great day”) you are likely to lose out to someone who seems nice to work with.
Not seeming interested. You might really want the job, but if you don’t ask questions and engage, you’ll lose out to someone with more enthusiasm. No need to fake it, but do know that if you aren’t interested in what the employer’s company does, you’ll probably lose out to someone who is.

It's nice that my question was chosen to represent the queries of my fellow oDesk contractors. :)
