Maraming Salamat! | Thank You! | Dhanyavaad!

I would like to thank God and everybody and everything that he used as an instrument to make this year a very pleasurable and fruitful one.
I can't ask for more.
This should be the most memorable year of my life:

I survived the dreaded Final Exams.
I passed the Mock Board.
I graduated from university. (My mentors were always there to give encouragement)
I recieved an accolade.
I spent a few months to review for the NLE and everything went well.
I passed the licensure examination with a good rating.
I got my first job: I earned my first salary.
I was able to meet lots of people from all around the world, share my knowledge and experiences with them and learn from their culture.
My beloved friends are always there to give specks of inspiration.
I have a beautiful and understanding girlfriend.
I have ever-supportive family and relatives.
(not the last and certainly not the least) I have Him in my life.
To Him be the Glory!

"Thank you" is, indeed, not enough for all of these.

The countdown for the next year has started.
We are all uncertain what will happen to us this 2012.

Kahani khatam hai ya shuruwaat hone ke hai (hone ke hai)
Is it the end of the story or a new beginning?

Subha nayi hai yeh ya phir raat hone ko hai (hone ke hai)
Is it a new morning or night about to fall?

Kahani khatam hai ya shuruwaat hone ke hai (hone ke hai)
Subha nayi hai yeh ya phir raat hone ko hai (hone ke hai)

Aane wala waqt dega panahein
Will time that comes gives us space to enjoy?

Ya phir se milenge do raahe
Or shall we be getting dilemmas (tensions, troubles)?

Khabar kya, kya pataa
Who knows....?

Let's just hope and pray for the best.
Let's do our best to make our lives better.

Whatever happens, please join me in this journey towards a new chapter in my / our lives.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
LET'S ROCK 2012!
(Anyways, I don't believe the next year will mark the conclusion of the world. ^^,)

***Thanks to the Hindi movie, Udaan or "Flight" (2010) for stimulating me to make this blog post. I personally recommend this highly appealing movie.

Undaan is a 2010 Hindi film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane which features 17-year-old Rohan (Rajat Barmecha) as he is expelled from the reputed Bishop Cotton School in Shimla.

A world without nurses | Isang mundong walang mga nars

A world without nurses. Video by AUSMED Education
I have to ask you this: Can you imagine a world without nurses?
For me, I can't even imagine a hospital without nurses. (and that's not just because I am a nurse too.) I would like to tell you more about my opinion regarding this but I wouldn't like to spoil the mood for you to watch this video made by AUSMED Education. It depicts the current and REAL importance of nurses here in this world and what would the consequences be if we (I have purposefully included myself) are few.

Here's a transcript of the video:

A world without nurses:
What would it mean?
There are 7 Billion ++ people in the world,
but only 17 million nurses.
Why should you care?
Fewer nurses means:
your life could be shorter,
you have a higher chance of getting a serious infection,
you may experience more complications from surgery or hospitalization.
Less nurses could mean life or death for acute care patients.
Nurses can help you live longer, healthier and even happier lives.
What's their secret?
Nurses care for people, not conditions,
evaluate the whole person,
educate people,
and make prevention a priority.
While technology and research advances,
so does the knowledge/ intelligence of our nurses:
from tertiary study
and clinical placement
to continued professional development.
Why? because education improves care.
(seminars, study days, textbooks, online learning, conferences)
Nurses are also getting older:
more than half of nurses are over 40,
20% of nurses will reach the age of retirement in the next 5 years.
Many nations share a common problem:
a critical shortage of nurses!
United States alone could need 1 million more nurses by 2020.
Australian officials estimate 90,000 will retire by 2020.
In the United Kingdom, around 180,000 are expected to retire within the next 10 years--
that's nearly half of their nurses.
In a world without nurses,
Who will care for your loved ones?
who will manage people with chronic illness?
Who will look after you?
Why should you care?
YOU SHOULD CARE!

WHAT'S YOUR SAY ABOUT THIS? | ANONG MASASABI MO UKOL DITO?

You and me, sitting on a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G

Somedaydream's official logo.

This song must be good enough for me to make an special blog post! I am currently stuck here listening to it. I heard from a TV advertisement (Cornetto). The first thing that I noticed as I hear this song is that its style is somewhat same with Owl City (with all the techno sounds). I have to make up my mind though since I am (or used to be) a fan of Owl City. This much is true: Somedaydream is as equally unique as Owl City. Anyways, Somedaydream is a Filipino artist and I actually did not expect this.

The video is decent but a bit dull as it becomes somewhat sluggish towards the end. It is pleasing to my eyes as it is colorful enough to depict the party/birthday-girl-fell-in-love-with-DJ story behind it (IF my interpretation is correct). Overall, it gives justice to the "techy" feeling of the song.

Kudos to its star-studded direction and production cast and crew (Bianca King and Rhian Ramos to name a few).

These are the two top comments for the video:

JefhSeo1528: corneto commercial brought me here
MY COMMENT: Me too! I have heard of this song once before I heard it in the Cornetto ad but I must say that the latter is the reason I decided to look for it in Youtube.

AkoSiAlas68: bat ganon ? kahit kapwa pinoy nla gmwa ng kantang to, binabatikos padin nla, ang pangit daw, pero pag sa mga foreign songs, tuwang tuwa sila, shame on you guise .. thumbs up for this song, galing ng pinoy, mas basura pa ung mga hindi marunong tumangkilik sa pinoy talents
MY COMMENT: With the song's decency, I am really wondering why there's 100+ dislikes for the song's video.

For this blog post to be complete, I also decided to add the song's lyrics here:

SOMEDAYDREAM - HEY DAYDREAMER

Oh you could just pretend to be with her all day
Remember the feeling when you first held hands today
Imagine her in your favorite white dress
Smiling at you as if she thinks that you're the best
She tell you You and me, sitting on a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G. You tell her
Baby hear me out will you marry me tonight
We're in this make believe reality
And baby it's just you and me

Coz when tonight she holds you tight
You wonder if this fantasy is right
Coz when reality comes to play
You realize you couldn't make her stay

Hey Daydreamer
You gotta be prepared to leave her in your fantasy
Coz when it's over, you gotta make sure
That it's you who'll be with her

Oh you could be her soldier, her knight in shining armor
I'm sure you wanna make her feel how much you love her
And you wish to God that she can see the world in your eyes
So she can realize that she's the girl in your mind
And you don't mind if you don't make it out alive
Coz you knew right from the start that she's such a boy killer
(I'm dying, I'm dying~yeah)

Coz when tonight she holds you tight
You wonder if this fantasy is right
Coz when reality comes to play
You realize you couldn't make her stay

Hey Daydreamer
You gotta be prepared to leave her in your fantasy
Coz when it's over, you gotta make sure
That it's you who'll be with her

And I couldn't believe we're dreaming
I couldn't believe we're leaving this world
For one with more fantasy, just you and me
So that tonight we both can finally be

Nursing in the Philippines | Stop Nurse Exploitation!

Stop Nurse Exploitation
through FALSE Volunteerism Practices and Non-Accredited Training Programs

Our country’s Nurses constitute the LARGEST number of health professionals in all settings. Nurses work with patients 24 hours a day from the time of admission to the day of discharge from the hospital.

Over 400,000 of our country’s Registered Nurses are EXPLOITED by many healthcare institutions through FALSE Volunteerism Practices and Non-Accredited Training Programs (BON-CPE Council Accreditation), where they are made to work with the full responsibilities of an employed staff Nurse, without any form of compensation, benefits, and employer protection. Most are even required to pay while rendering Nursing Care services.

Because these Nurses have obtained the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and have passed the Nurses Licensure Examination, they are fully qualified to practice safe Nursing Care to patients, families, and communities, as per RA 9173, the Nursing Act of 2002. However, these young Professionals are charged exorbitant fees for these “so-called” trainings, and are left to submit to this blatant form of exploitation.  Furthermore, they are deceived with empty promises of employment and the misinformed belief of improving their resumes though “Volunteer” or “Training” Certificates.

These practices prevent new Nurses from being hired, because all available Nurse Plantilla positions are filled up by these unpaid “Volunteers” or “Trainees”. These healthcare institutions have no need to hire anymore, as they can get Nursing services for FREE through the EXPLOITATION of our Nurses.

Lastly, as per the International Council of Nurses’ (ICN) November 2010 Asia Nursing Workforce Forum, Training and Volunteer certificates are NOT recognized abroad as work experience.

These exploitative practices have existed for more than 15 years. It was temporarily halted in 2008, through the efforts of the PNA. In January 2011, the issue broke out again in the media, but the exploitation stopped only for ONE WEEK. The effect is always short-lived, as government support in this issue is not continuous.

Today, there are many Private and Government hospitals still engaging in this EXPLOITATION. They now go by different names, masquerading as “Specialty Programs” such as Nurse Residency, Basic Skills Training, Clinical Advancement, and Post-Graduate Trainings.

The whole Philippine population is deeply concerned in this situation, as these hundreds of thousands of Exploited Nurses are our brothers and sisters, spouses, parents, and our children.

The Filipino Nurses are clamouring for jobs they are already trained to do. Give them what is due starting with a decent salary.

Uphold the respect for the dignity of Nurses and the right of the Filipino People to quality healthcare!
Nurses take care of the health of our countrymen, but who takes care of our dear Nurses?

We, the Filipino People, implore our Government, and our “People’s President”, Benigno S. Aquino III, to put a STOP to the exploitative practices against our Nurses’ Constitutional and God-Given Human Rights.angnars.com

Who will be the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year?

Hearing the news about CNN Heroes 2011 made me remember a fellow Filipino, Efren Penaflorida. He won as the 2009 Hero of the Year because of his Dynamic Teen Company's educational program for street children. I asked myself: Who will be the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year?

I think Derreck Kayongo deserve to be named as the CNN Hero of the Year 2011. All of them (the 10 finalists) deserve support for their unique programs but Kayongo, a native of Uganda, caught my attention because of the efficiency and extent (includes, but not limited to, Haiti, Uganda, Kenya and Swaziland) of his program regarding recycling (hotel) soap bars. Being a member of the health care force, I can also relate to the vital need of each and everyone for basic sanitation.

"Are we really throwing away that much soap at the expense of other people who don't have anything?" --CNN Hero Derreck Kayongo

Note: I initially chose Elena Duron Miranda (from Argentina) because of her program that helps keep about 200 children out of the trash dump and enrolled in school (PETISOS) but she withdrawn from being included in the Top 10.

How about you? Who do you think will be the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year?

Open Happiness

Open Happiness = Enjoy Life!

How would you define happiness? What’s the feeling when you are happy? What makes you happy anyway?

Questions to answer when you define happiness… Ways to find if you want to be happy…

Happiness is a mental state of well-being characterized by positive emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.

In individuals’ happiness, they found it based on what they have achieved, the acceptance and contentment. Some individuals die without experiencing the true denotation of happiness.

How to attain happiness and how to maintain it? Certain studies made apropos this issue of mental state. Based on my observation and ocular study on peoples’ behavior and attitude in life and to the society focusing on happiness, reasons on how they manage to be happy are depending on certain reasons and on how they accomplish it.

“For sure, everyone wants to be happy…” below are some whys and wherefores to keep happiness away.

1. Turn negative energy to positive energy. Connoting if you are in the state of forlorn, find some ways to deflect it and be happy. Not thinking too much what makes you sad, happy moments penetrates now into your mind.

2. Believe that God does not give any obstacles that you cannot handle. Having faith in God gives you more strength and full of hope. Giving you more mettle to hammer the matters to attain the ultimate goal the happiness.

3. Be with your friends, family or any individuals where you find happiness from them. Those who are comic that really make you laugh without hurting your feelings. Being with them takes your some times to forget your matters in life.

4. Solve what makes you not to be happy. Getting rid of these sad matters or any, you may attain the full happiness that you want.

5. Be inspired to someone’s presence. Being with someone you are in love with or you are longing for makes you happy. This may put you to the cloud nine of happiness, putting you away from the line of setback.

6. Be happy, be budoy. Being positive in life makes you happy despite of multitude problems that you have. This is not of putting you to the figure of being zany but it only shows how valiant you are to struggle for happiness.

7. If you are alone in some time, you could watch television shows or movies that are funny or any shows that you want where it frees you to your sadness even for a moment. You can also play sports that you are comfortable.

8. You can also play with your pets. As to some certain studies and researches, playing or even seeing the pets remove stress. But for me even problems in life or any negative feelings are momentarily forgotten.

9. Buy some time to be busy. Just to ignore your sadness though for only minutes or hours.

10. If you fell being torn to pieces, feel being defeated and feel being ignored and left by the world, just be positive. Think that your friends, family and especially God are always there to protect you and will never live you alone.

Bein’ happy is a part of our lifestyle to maintain our mental fitness… Some of the people are not mentally fit simply because they allow themselves to be swallowed and be prevailed by sadness.
